Course description: Directed toward Spanish majors preparing for their Capstone experience, this 2 unit course aims to guide the student in the process of completing a capstone proposal and initiating the preliminary steps toward the graduation portfolio. The portfolio provides evidence that a student is making satisfactory progress toward meeting the Core requirements and Major Learning Outcomes.
My Spanish 300 class was very helpful because it provided us with information related to our capstone project. The first day of class, we were introduced to a book that is about becoming good researchers. I liked that book because after reading it, I felt that I knew how to start my research; it taught me step by step. We were then asked to think about out capstone topic. I got nervous because I did not have any idea about what I wanted to do. It took me a few weeks to choose my topic. I am glad that our teacher helped us in this process because I was afraid of choosing a bad topic. At first, I had an idea about my possible topic, but the teacher told me that it was too broad. I had to start all over again and think about what attracted me the most. I finally chose a topic and the teacher approved it. I started the research process, but something weird happened. I felt that I did not like my topic enough, so I looked for a different topic. I found my second topic and I decided that I was not going to change it; I stayed with my second topic. During class, I told my teacher that I changed it and he did not have any problem. In the following classes, we were given a presentation about how to find credible sources and how to cite them. We were also taught to create a diagram to organize our capstone ideas. We were then introduced to the next steps for our capstone project. We were told that we need to create an outline. This outline has to have our topic and sections that include what we are going to talk about. I liked this idea of creating an outline because I am used to create one. An outline really helps me to organize my ideas and it makes my projects success. We also need to create a bibliography, which has to include primary and secondary sources. This part of the process made me a little bit stressed because I had trouble finding good sources about my topic. I just had to put more effort into researching because I now have great sources that will help me a lot. Even though I found great sources already, I am still looking for more. I want to end up with an awesome capstone project. I know it will be hard, but I am sure I can do it; I am ready for this big assignment.
