MLO 2
Span 315
Span 303
Span 305
Spanish 315, 303, and 305 helped me to complete the MLO 2 requirement. The class that helped me the most to meet this requirement was Spanish 315. Even after taking this class, I noticed that my Spanish needed some improvement. In SPAN 315, I had to translate several documents. For example, advertisements, short letters, long letters, and news reports, among others. Translating these documents was not easy to do, in fact, it was super difficult. In order to translate these documents, I needed to know how to write in a formal and informal way because some documents were very formal. I wanted to drop this class because I was nervous that I was not going to pass it; I did not know how to write in a formal way. After a couple of lessons, I learned how to do it. I learned to recognize the words that I can use in a formal occasion. I would love to keep learning about words that I can use in a formal and informal occasion because it is great to be able to engage in a conversation with educated people. At the same time, it is funny when I speak with my friends and use formal words with them because most of them cannot understand me. I said that this class helped me realize that my Spanish needed some improvement and the reasons why I said that are the following. I noticed that I was using words that I was not supposed to be using. The Spanish I was using was not the standard Spanish, the Spanish that everyone understands. I was using the Spanish that I learned in Mexico, which is a little bit different form the standard Spanish. When translating the documents, my teacher noticed that I needed to work on my grammar and punctuation. After taking this class, I knew that I needed to take more classes to improve the areas that I just mentioned. A semester later, I took Spanish 303 and 305 which were beneficial to me. My Spanish 303 class helped me because the teacher reviewed important components of Spanish grammar such as the difference between ser y estar, the Spanish verbal system and other problematic aspects of grammar. That was the class I was looking for to improve my Spanish skills, I was so happy that the department offered that class. The attached assignment demonstrates how I successfully improved in the areas I needed to.
