This course introduces students to the majors in Japanese Language and Culture, Spanish or World Language and Cultures. Students acquire knowledge and understanding needed to fulfill Major Learning Outcomes for the programs. Students identify and work with a major advisor to develop individual learning plans. The course examines opportunities in related professional and career paths, including graduate education and teaching credential preparation. (Offered fall semester.)
In WLC 300, we were given information on all the classes that we need to take in order to successfully complete the Spanish major. After, we were given information on all the classes, we were asked to create an Individual Learning Plan, with the help of our advisor. This plan was created to help us understand which classes to take in the upcoming semesters. We were also introduced to different career opportunities related to the Spanish major throughout the semester. It was interesting to meet people who were already working in the field as a Spanish teacher or as a translator. Having a Spanish teacher come in and talk to our class really helped me because I want to be a Spanish teacher and I got to hear what it is like to have that job. We were also introduced to the Senior Capstone Project. We were given a presentation on all the components this project needs to have. We learned that we will need to present this project in front of all the staff and we will also participate in an event. In this class, we were given information on the opportunities that we have to study abroad. We were given a presentation by a special guest and she talked about all the different places we can go to. This presentation was helpful because we had many questions about studying abroad. This class was very helpful because we received useful information that will benefit us in the future. I personally know that I am not alone in this path that I took because there are many people who can help me.
