In my Spanish 307 class I learned about Mexico’s history. It was a class just about Mexico. I had a class before and we talked about Mexico, but we also focused on Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay. In Span 307 we discussed Mexico’s independence and many more topics. The class was divided in sections, and the first section was about the Spaniards and their impact in Mexico. To learn about this, we had to read several essays and we also had class discussions. I liked having these class discussions because they helped me understand the readings more. For this section we also had study Mexico’s map. The teacher wanted us to know all the states and their exact locations. It was easy for me to learn all the states, I just had to review the map a couple of times. At the end of this section, we had a test and we had to write an essay. I enjoyed one of the sections of this class because we talked about identity. It was not just identity in general, it was more about how Mexicans identify themselves. It was interesting because we had all these readings about people who wanted to have a clear definition of the word Mexican. All the readings were fascinating because they had at least one truth about Mexicans. The interesting part is that none of those readings had the whole definition of Mexicans. I had to write an essay about it and I said that there is no way that someone can actually say how Mexicans are. We are all different and not just Mexicans are different, everyone in this world is different. I loved taking this class because it helped me learn more about the place I was born in. I hope that in the future I can take another class like Spanish 307.
